Established in 2005 by Richard Daneel of Sure Stellenbosch Travel and Nico Grobbelaar who is still very much involved in the day to day running of iKhaya. This family-run business is now managed by his daughter Robyn who is the third generation of Daneel to be involved in the travel and tourism industry in Stellenbosch. Richard, one of the longest-standing businessmen in Stellenbosch has been in the tourism industry for almost 40 years and is a legacy in Stellenbosch.
iKhaya (meaning “Our Home” in Xhosa) was born of a need in the area for a budget-friendly, yet quality guesthouse as the popularity of South Africa as a backpacker’s destination began to grow. Offering a unique type of lodging, iKhaya comprises of self-catering apartments with the affordability of a backpackers, giving guests the freedom to plan their day and to manage their costs and focus on the important things: exploring.
Accommodation at iKhaya places value in low-cost yet functional accommodation, with entry-level dorm rooms, private dorms and studio apartments on offer. Dormitories can house up to 8 people, each room with their own open plan kitchen and bathroom. For those who want a little more privacy, there are private rooms available within the dorms with shared facilities to choose from. The third room category available is the studio apartments which are open plan and airy, also equipped with self-catering facilities.
Our Reception area doubles as a café/bar – during the day we offer breakfasts and sandwiches and at night, share a drink with the locals at our bar. We are passionate about creating a home away from home, and offering our clients the chance to experience all that Stellenbosch, the Western Cape and South Africa has to offer, and look forward to being part of your experience.
